In 1960, the Nimocks Insurance Agency (operated by Fulton A. Nimocks), the Fidelity Insurance Agency (operated by Carl L. Obermann), and Richard Evans and the Evans Agency (operated by Donald C. Latimer) deemed it to be to their individual and collective interest to merge their respective insurance businesses into a single business unit, which was named NOEL Insurance, Inc. “NOEL” is derived from the first letters of the last names of the above individuals.
NOEL Insurance, Inc., constructed a building at 219 West 4th Street, Ottumwa, Iowa, for the purpose of conducting a general insurance business. The facility was ready for occupancy on September 1, 1960, and NOEL Insurance began business effective that date.
Richard Evans retired from NOEL in 1968 and Fulton Nimocks retired in 1974. Donald Latimer died in 1975 and Carl Obermann retired in 1984. Spike Olson moved his agency into NOEL in 1977 and later retired in 1985. The Charles Hull Agency was purchased in 1981 and merged into the NOEL Agency. Paul Madsen joined NOEL Insurance, Inc. in 1968, Russ Sporer in 1974 and Eldon Hunsicker in 1985. Paul Madsen retired in 1992. In 2001, Willene White joined NOEL as a partner. The Northup Agency in Hedrick was acquired in 2002. In July 2004, the Clark Mefford Insurance Agency was purchased and joined NOEL.
NOEL Insurance is currently owned and operated by the three (3) partners of Hunsicker, White and Sporer. NOEL has approximately eleven (11) full- and part-time employees. We want our Customers to realize that each person is a part of one large organization, and the entire unit works together to obtain a smoothly operating agency. NOEL Insurance has grown into a full-service insurance agency since 1960.
